Mother’s Day + Everyday Food
Thursday, May 5, 2011 UncategorizedSurprisingly our Mother’s Day post has no recipes and no decor ideas. A first for us when we’re talking about entertaining + gathering with friends + family.
We’re recipe free for two reasons. First, as you all know Karen is a new mom + our fingers are crossed that she is pampered this Mother’s day. Also, the test kitchens of Martha Stewart Everyday Food kindly invited us for their mother’s day brunch with their editors, chefs, and fellow bloggers (we dined with Betsy of Cool Mom Picks, Isabel of Alpha Mom, Jennie of In Jennies Kitchen, and Olga of Sassy Radish). We had such a wonderful time meeting them all and learning a little bit about this fantastic mag’s behind the scenes. Their brunch was beautiful, delicious, and attainable for every home cook — everything that’s important to SS — so why would we compete ? Check out our visit here, the recipes are available in the May issue of Everyday Food (on newstands & Ipads too, plus there’s a great instructional video on how to make the potato bacon cake here too). Happy Mother’s day to new + long time moms alike ! (Written by Lizzy Sall , Photos by Karen Mordechai, scroll down for the full menu below)
The Menu:
Cranberry-Orange Sparkler
Potato and Bacon Cake
Tomato-Onion Casserole
Orange-Poppy Scones
Croque Madame Sandwiches
Chocolate-Dipped Macadamia Cookies

This is stunning! What a privilege to go behind the scenes!
Your pictures are stunning, which is not an easy feat! I always find it much more challenging to shoot on location than in my house, where I can generally control the lighting and take as long as I need to get a good picture. The fact that all these look so stunning in a restaurant setting is impressive. It’s also fun to see what the dishes actually were; just looking at the pictures I guessed many wrong.
don’t judge me, but i want to dive head first in that tomato-onion casserole. om to the freaking nom!
May I please have the recipe for the macademia chocolate dipped cookies? They look just amazing. Thank you so much.

Can you tell us the recipe please
I wish I could share the recipes – but they are available in Everyday Food’s May issue – sorry guys, you’ll have to pick one up !
This is a visual delight and I am sure delicious at least. However, I know it is
“over the top” and I wish I were biting into the scones. Ms BonBon says Yum!

Oh boy those orange poppy seed scones look amazing! Great pictures, and to die for menu! Happy Mother’s Day!
What a beautiful brekky! And I agree … hard to shoot well at the breakfast table (but you’d never know it here)
When I become a mother (Lord willing) I would LOVE a mother’s day feast like this. Gorgeous and delicious.
Oh my goodness everything looks so scrumptious! I’m hungry now!
What a spread! I have to say, those sunny-side up eggs just look too darn perfect.
Gorgeous shots, gorgeous food, gorgeous styling!
